Tips For Full Time Employment

The economy has made finding full time employment very competitive and it is important that a person who is going to look for a position to be prepared and do more research than is required when there is an abundance of jobs. Following a few tips for getting ahead of your competition can make the difference between getting the position you are seeking and losing out on the opportunity.

Do Some Research

A full-time position is not just about you and the person who supervises your work. The way that you interact and connection with the company will be a determining factor in your ability to move forward in the company once you are hired. Therefore, find out everything you can about the company you are going to apply to.

If at all possible carry your research to the next level by networking with people who work in the company and talking to individuals who do the type of job you are applying for. It will save a lot of time in your preparation if you know what the relevant skills required will be.

Get Prepared

When you are creating your resume, focus your skills on the specific skills that are considered important to the company. Again, you will find this information when you are researching the company. Keep your resume to no more than 2 pages plus a cover letter. Do not be vague and do not write with the attitude that anyone reading your materials will know what you are talking about. It is important that you are clear and concise in all of the materials that you present.

It will be important that you make copies of your resume, reference letters and other materials to provide to the interview panel. Do not carry these items loose, but invest in a portfolio carrier to place all of your materials in. Be sure that you have a pen with you and remember that you must present the persona of the person that the company is looking for.

Think About Clothing

No matter what your favourite colors are, think about how they will affect people psychologically. There are some colors and patterns that you want to stay away from when you are applying for a position. When you do your research, take notice of what people wear in the company. A conservative company will not want someone that dresses in silk and paisley even if they have all of the skills needed. It is important that you remember that your clothing is just as important as you are when you are presenting yourself and everything must fit in with the culture of the company.

Conclusion

It will be important that you are relaxed and answer questions completely and concisely. Most people have a tendency to ramble when they are nervous. Do not ramble and do not go into more detail than you need to when talking about personal questions. Before answering any question count to 3 slowly. This will give you time to get your thoughts together and answer questions more easily. In addition, when you are interviewing for full time employment, be sure to look each person in the eye when you are talking to them. Do not fumble with a pen, do not look down, do not cross your legs, do not put your elbows on the table and most importantly do not fold your arms in front of you.

Folding your arms in front of you is a defensive posture that gives people the subliminal message that you are afraid of losing control or unable to address issues openly. It is also important that you lean slightly forward when you are talking to interviewers. This posture shows that you are interested, alert and consider what you are talking about important.
